Grungie and Okuu are familiar with this on the anime forum they're on, and well... I figured I might as well share these with you guys. Keep in mind, they are not going to be for everybody:
One is the Duck Brothers. I had these chars in mind during childhood, and well...let's just say I'm building up lore for these fowl. Anyway, the premise is that the novel takes place in a universe where cartoons and anime work together with humans ala Roger Rabbit, but with a little more realism (for example, toons can get addicted to drugs and can't defy physics as much, etc.). The stories follow three ducks - Tommy, Steve and Larry - Tommy is kinda like this Bruce Campbell snarkist, deep down however he lies a big heart, Steve is the voice of reason and is quite calm and Larry is that ol' genius trope with the invention building and reasearching. And there's a pile of soiled underwear, Undey, that binge drinks and is perverted. There's three stories about these duckies:
Feminism Shmeminism - Tommy and Steve must deal with a random so-called "feminist" ranting about the strong sexual content of their new show while Larry and Undey go camping with their friends and butt heads with a elitist park ranger.
Cooking is My Business... - Steve discovers he has a gifted cooking talent and winds up competing with two other rival cartoon ducks on a cooking show. Tommy does some volunteer work at a military base as a way to get some peace and quiet from the press; but ends up being stalked by a paparazzi.
Home Sweet Duck - When the Duck Brothers' mansion suffers damage from a massive storm, Tommy, Steve and Larry stay at a lavish penthouse apartment where a smart, but psychotic sentient computer controls the entire apartment. Ironically, Undey also sets up shop in a empty room at the same apartment for his counterfeit money operation.
I'm planning a sequel to the Duck Bros. titled "Delirious Nomad". Essentially, instead of three stories, there's two - a lengthy one that satirizes the controversy of digital piracy and copyright infringement complete with legit pirates, and another one, "Movers & Shakers" - this one makes fun on the topic of drug abuse, namely methamphetamine and prescription pill abuse in Colorado.
Oh, and both comics will have drawn characters on real life backgrounds.
Next, there's "The God-Child". It's more story driven than the Duck Bros, but the premise is that it takes place during the 80s. Taking place in the fictious Wyoming town of Hogsteer the years of 1983, 1986 and 1990, the plot deals with the Corizatos, an extremely violent family and gang of mafiosos reeling from the death of Giovanni Corizato, who was shot by a unknown assailant during a botched escape at a courthouse, and as a result several rival gangs have took over his property. Before his death, he chose one of his youngest sons – an adopted lazy 18-year old spoiled with computer games, pornography and drugs named Jensen Corizato. On the day he’s sworn in, former consigliere Edgar Lauren tells him that to restore honor and dignity to the Corizatos, the yakuza, white supremacist and outlaw biker gangs have to be wiped out from the face of Hogsteer. In Jensen’s case, this is getting in the way of his TRS-80 time. It's a surreal, violent parody of crime fiction with a lot of absurdist humor and slapstick.
Both are not intended for kids because of violence, nudity, profanity, sex and whatnot but no biggie. I will share some WIP bits and pieces from the Duck Bros (and eventually The God Child once I finish the Duck Bros). Criticism is always welcome BTW. Oh, and if you want to illustrate - great! Just send me a PM and we'll go from there.
