I've always thought that was a piece missing from the tolerance picture. If you're really tolerant, you should tolerate people who don't tolerate anyone.
Adam, good to have you back, sorry you had/have all that shit. Best of luck with getting out of the army. It justifies free speech. There is a line to be drawn of course; that's why we have laws with varying severity; murder is one thing, genocide is another. Both bad, but arguably different in terms of heaviness. In other words, generally speaking, free speech = good, free behavior (which arguably does include speech) = not good. Be a neo-Nazi tit? Society will usually judge you and avoid you for it. Be a saint? You'll be revered. On the other hand, I have a problem if you actively try to harm people of a certain race, ethnicity, nationality, sex, gender, age, orientation, political alignment, religion, and everything else of the sort. The human charter of rights is superb and I'm glad most countries have it (not that they all respect it, unfortunately). There are debates however as to whether saying certain things should be banned or to the very least, discouraged, such as Islamophobic speech that often inspires radicals in the East to bomb synagogues or embassies and what not. The Innocence of the Muslims was a hate-film (dubbed after filming, unbeknownst to the well-intentioned actors, who were unaware of the true intentions of the director. The actors and director subsequently had fatwas put on their heads) that inspired the bombing of an American embassy in....... Syria? If I remember well, 4 diplomats were killed in the incident. So yeah. I guess this is a post that should have been reserved for the Philosophy thread EDIT: I also believe, such as Kierkegaard, in the inherent and natural existence of paradoxes, the tolerance one you gave in your post being such.

The thing with free speech is that there's a level of responsibility with it. While you can technically say whatever you want with free speech, that doesn't mean you can be an idiot and say "well it's my right to say whatever I want"

I never said anything against that, hence why I said you can't be an idiot.
The thing that everyone should have along with free speech is tact. The point is you can express your opinions freely but don't run around airports yelling "THERE'S A BOMB" or something to that sort
And we should move this discussion to the philosophy thread Obscene Wrote:babe why is there an israeli sleeping under the bed? Grungie Wrote:Great, more brown people Apparently i like platypuses.

Only reason I bother to emphasize it is because so many people seem to forget it. What I said is common sense. But the minute someone says something along the lines of the idiotic and everyone gets on them for it, they tend to try and defend what they said. Kind of silly but whatever. hrug:
