I've always really wanted to try out a guitar with coil splitting. I've heard good things and meh things about it but it seems like a cool concept.
My Tele has one, and to be completely honest, I don't use it that much, but it's helpful when I do use it.

I think people hate them because you don't get an exact single coil sound, but for others, it's close enough. Also some guitars have a volume drop when you split the humbucker.
I don't mind the volume drop for the tone I'd probably be going for anyway. And I don't really expect it to all of a sudden sound like a vintage strat or anything crazy like that.

I might have to try it out.

That actually might be a useful song dynamic at times.

I mean, I love the sound and texture of the actives I have in my main guitar, but the downside is that they're always loud. And, of course, due to electronics, it's not like you can mix actives and passives. If I could mix the two, I totally would, for sake of dynamics (and sometimes -- rarely -- for clarity of a certain tone).

You can easily install coil tapping on your guitar. My Tele just came with it.
lol i don't know if you can coil tap (or split? I get the two mixed up all the time) emgs
coil splitting vs coil tapping

You can split some EMG's though I doubt you have the ones that do.

Well, I actually have Blackouts. (I'm not sure you could call anything Seymour Duncan makes an off-brand, but you get the idea.) Anyway, I'm 90% certain I can't split these.
I have 81 / 85, the usual.

Can't you just say they're active pickups? Anyway I don't think you can split most active pickups.
