Well, part time people definitely don't get paid leave or benefits. And a lot of people who work at like Walmart and stuff are forced into part time. Thats how it was where I worked. I don't think fast food places give paid leave or benefits either, they'll let you get overtime though.

I'm honestly not super bothered about paid leave, I'd just like to get time off in general.
Yeah, I'd be cool with unpaid leave myself. I care way more about time than I do money.

I kind of hate this idea that part-time people are deserving of less too. If you work part time it's most likely because you either have other time-consuming obligations or it's because you were forced into it so your employer wouldn't have to pay you benefits. Getting paid less than full time employees should be enough.

It could be much worse but I'm still not looking forward to this aspect of working (which I should have started to do years ago rather than be some eighteen year old twat sitting at home).

Edit: And in case you guys are getting this impression, it's not that I'm lazy. I have wanted to work for a long time and accept all this, it's just that I want time to do a lot of things (if I had a week off I wouldn't just sit there).
Yeah, I never did that much in high school, so I worked, but I don't work during college because then I would have like negative free time.

I dunno, it kinda makes sense because part time is less commitment, and your job is generally less important, and health benefits are expensive. It can also suck though.
When you put it that way it [neglecting part times benefits] makes sense, but as part of the bigger picture it reflects a screwed up system, especially when there are people 'forced' to work 34 hours just so they can work nearly as much and receive no benefits.

I will definitely be working in college. In another thread I said I wanted to go to Community College because I could pay for it myself. My parents are 'making' me go to university, so I have pledged to pay at least 1/3 of the tuition all by myself. If I have no free time, whatever.

On another note, somebody I know said he could maybe get me a job working on an oil derrick. I declined because that's dangerous work and I'm an idiot, but if I could I would accept a 'hard-labour' job making a good amount of money in the summer and just focusing on university for the rest of the year. I doubt I even have a chance of finding one that I could get hired into and not kill myself though. I've met a few people who paid for college this way, plus I would have the non-summer breaks to do what I want. /fantasising.
Yeah, definitely get something with more hours so you can make more money. I actually do pay for school myself, but I get hella scholarships and I make like 3-4 thousand dollars every summer, and often another thousand (or at least a couple hundred) over winter break. Thats how I can get away with not working during school. If I did work I think I'd have to take down my course load, which I really don't want to do.
I would like to work, but this is my last semester. It's crazy busy already. I also commute, which means I spend an hour a day (total) driving.

A part time job would be great experience, but moving computers around every weekend doesn't appeal to me. What does THAT have to do with programming, anyway?
Hey, I got a job!
What's a job?
Congratulations Phils!

I'm applying at a bunch of places in the next couple of days; I know a place that I could work at and most likely still get the time off in June, so hopefully that works out.

My grandpa basically told me I'm a piece of shit for putting off work so I can go on a trip. I guess he's right so I'm applying. Though since this is my last chance to see these people for several years I still don't know if I'm actually willing to pass it up for two months of minimum wage. >_> I might only accept the aforementioned place which is my best chance of being hired anyway. At the same time though if I don't get a job right now I'm fucked for life.
