So this song I'm working on in Guitar Pro is in 8/4, but I'm not really sure how this is different from 4/4 since there are songs in 8/4 time.
edit: nvm, I got some stuff trimmed out to fit in 7/4 since 6/4 wasn't working.

I don't think I've ever heard anything in 8/4, but basically the feel would be different. As someone on UG's MT put it, the bottom number represents the note duration, and the top number represents the number of them in the bar. So, I guess 8/4 would mean there's 8 quarter notes in a bar (which is kind of nonsensical). I honestly only think of odd time signatures like that as an academic exercise, since they generally don't actually apply to composing.
