It's like they dedicate their lives to ending discrimination that isn't even actually there when really all they do is reinforce judgment based on race, sex and background and effectively spread hate for no reason. At least that's the impression I get when I go in there every once in a while.
I'm probably doing a bad way of describing the way I see it as but here I go:
While I do agree there are some aspects of discrimination based on race and gender that they bring up that should be brought to attention, though I highly disagree with the way they're doing it more than disagreeing with what they're saying (though not saying I don't disagree with some of what they're saying).
I think that some of them try a little too hard in ending racism. Like you said, they kind of still reinforce judgement based on your background. It's like they're trying too hard and read too far into some situations, and it's resulted in them looking like they're egging a problem instead of trying to stop it. Or they're causing self-hate or shaming people, though people like Blake say that's not what's happening, but their condescending tone through this isn't helping me not think that's what they're doing.
Also some of their mentality and the way they go about it is also really counterproductive: Having snarky ways of schooling people over discrimination, ridiculing people either because they disagree with what you're saying or you said something offensive. This isn't helping.
Also assuming someone doesn't like you because they're a "closet racist" or "can't handle the truth" makes you look like you're on a moral high ground. Back to the insulting, insulting someone because they said something offensive towards a woman or minority doesn't give you the justification to insult someone. It's kind of like they're using the white knighting as a shield to excuse them to flame someone, and if you argue back about that, you're racist/sexist.
I don't like throwing my race out there in serious situations, but as a minority, this feels kind of insulting to me. A lot of this stuff is easy to read into them doing this to make themselves look better, or like women and minorities aren't capable of doing it, so the white man is the only one with power to make this change. I don't see the latter as much, but I've definitely noticed that some of the posts come off that way.
tl;dr I think that some of the stuff they bring up is pretty important, but I hate the way they're doing this, and they do get worked up over some really petty shit.

It's not as bad as that when you get to know some of them. But some of them can be pretty bad at face value. It helps if you're not known for using terms like "fag". That said, they were rather unfair to Phils. I yelled at them for that.
On Eminem: I still enjoy The Slim Shady LP and The Marshall Mathers LP. The Eminem Show had a few good songs and a few horrible songs. Everything after that ranges from average to bad. Recovery was a good effort but just wasn't that great, and everything he does now has the same flow and structure. Those pop songs he has been featuring in are pretty bad in my opinion. I only listened to Infinite once, it sounded like Nas but not as good other than the title track.
On the hardcore forum: I like some individual people in there and I don't particularly dislike anyone there, but I can see what some of you are saying. I actually agree with some of their major points but they create arguments where there doesn't need to be any.
Edit: Also I get annoyed when people still get onto Phils about saying 'fag' since he listened when they explained to him why it's bad and hasn't used it since (as far as I know). When they want to criticise Phils for being 'homophobic' they go search for a post from months ago and quote it. I have seen this on multiple occasions. I'm talking about the pit right now, not the hardcore forum.
Quote:*grungies post*
exactly.
/end rant

Oh yea, I haven't really said it that I can remember. I've pretty much cut it out of my vocab though it slips out now and then from habit. I basically always just said it like any other swear word. Not as a derogatory for gays, but it's a pretty shit thing to say so I've stopped. And yea, I get pissed when they still bring it up. Like, hey, I stopped cuz we already went through all this shit. Remember?
I think Grungie has said that due is only an asshole on UG, as a humorous facade. That said, I agree with your post. Although someone shouldn't change their opinion because it'll get someone to like them better (not that you were implying that).
Due is...due. (And he is an asshole.) He doesn't really represent the entire hardcore forum though.
hrug:
Well I was mostly pointing out how some people other than Due like Blake, Element, and others are pretty terrible at helping their cause. Also some of those posts that Phils points out from the Hardcore forum does seem really silly.

No, not at all. It works with anything really. Not just these really important topics and stuff.
If I liked Halo and someone else liked Battlefield and they berated Halo and sold to me how wrong I was about liking that game, and it's awful, and I eventually ditched it. For them then to be like, "well you're not playing Battlefield with me cuz you used to like Halo" is beyond stupid.
If someone eventually comes along and understands what your trying to say to them you can't then shut them out as if they're still your enemy. It just doesn't work like that.
I'm not really talking about the Hardcore Forum at this point. Just how I see people act all over the internet in debates and stuff
If I was to mention someone on UG who is usually really cool and informed and not an assholes during those kinds o discussions it would be bladeslinger

I'm not sure about the humorous facade part, I think someone else mentioned that part. I only mentioned him not being an ass outside of Facebook.
