I really dislike most of what I hear about Chinese culture. Everything seems so uptight and crowded, and maybe this is just ethnocentrism talking but a lot of it just seems purely insane.
I could definitely see living in Japan though.
A lot of the things China gets hate for are things that are done locally in few parts in China though, and not even by a majority of the people in that specific area (I don't know how common those eggs are in Dyongyang but you get my point).
Japan>China in my opinion but there is a good side to China. I'd much rather live in Japan, but I'd be open to China if I needed to, and Hong Kong is almost on par to Japan considering even though it's more crowded.
But yeah, I'm no expert on China but most of what we hear is either the bad stuff (every country has multiple sides to it) or weird things that don't speak for the entire country, especially with the anti-Sino sentiment in the West (and other places like Japan) going on right now.
Edit: Another example is that article (I think Cracked again) that discussed the 'fetus soup' made by one person in a remote village near Tibet (it may have been the place above Tibet I can never spell. Either way it's not even real China) and everybody through a fit on how awful all of China is because of that.
Fuck China's education though. They might learn a lot but they suck out all childhood and individualism in the process. I did a lot of research on it for a paper a couple months ago and it seemed absolutely miserable.
If I go to China, I'd stick to either Beijing or Shanghai, the major cities. I don't think I could handle the small backwater towns in China that practice full on communism. Also a lot of those places are like another country compared to Beijing.
Well yeah. From my understanding it's like the pressure of South Korea's education system minus the good stuff, but it's much better now than it was just a decade and a half or so ago.
But even then there's different perspectives on it depending on a number of factors. Although I've never properly researched China's education system, just Japan and Korea.
Chinese schools are obviously more miserable than first world schools; I'm not trying to defend it. Although I would like to say while in East Asia education isn't individualised enough; in North America it's too individualised. Northern Europe got it right.
Edit: I'd never want to live in rural China (although we all know 'full communism' in China isn't communism >_>)
Edit 2: Okay, maybe I'm giving China too much credit. Only anywhere between 150 million-300 million Chinese people get to live 'good' lives in China compared with us. But I think China knows it's screwed up in the past and they are working to modernise. When my parents were kids China was almost as screwed up as North Korea, and now look at it. I'm sure it'll continue to get better and by the end of my lifetime we won't look down on it as this weird, stupid country.
Chinks ruined the world. 90% of them are commies.
