It's not satire either. It's shock humor. There's no punchline or substance, it's just spouting derogatory terms that barely relate to someone's ethnicity, sexuality, past actions or personality and putting the humor label on it. There's really no reason it vaguely resembles humor other than the shock value of the pejoratives and the fact that some have deemed that funny.


Everyone's a comedian. We look at Tosh's rape joke or Doug Stanhope's sets and think "what they want me to do is yell offensive shit cuz that's funny! I'm not missing the point! Niggerrrr!"; and it somehow becomes cool to do so. Everyone will defend their ability to use those jokes to death when they're not a part of the group that gets marginalized.

But at least you didn't prove them people that call the pit sexist or homophobic or racist right or anything. Not at all, they're totally wrong; our sexism, homophobia and racism is HUMOR. I watch Carlin!

I dunno, when we call each faggots and whatnot, it's more 'banter' than shock humour, because it doesn't shock us, and friends tend to call each other insults. But yeah, shock humour gets old real fast.

We're all basically like the average 'guy friends', we call each other names, laugh and insult each other constantly, but it's all in good laughs and love <3

And as for shock humor, it's not meant to be a thing by it's own, you're supposed to add it to other kinds of humor for more 'flavor'. For example you'll usually see it along with dark humor. And context is also important as always, just yelling out stuff about raping dead babies doesn't do much by it's own.

People with a lot more practice and experience at humor than all of us combined still don't incorporate the word faggot or nigger into their sets or jokes or improv because there's rarely an original way to subvert its meaning and most end up with something humorless and confused.

Intent is not easily conveyed. It's okay. It's like I said in that thread where WCPhils and snazz said "lol what a fag" and "lol gay", jokes like that don't understand their own intent if they say "I didn't mean it as a pejorative". The intent or purpose of a joke is irrelevant of the joker's intentions. When I mention a 'joke's intent', I'm talking about what the joke is saying, why it wants to make us laugh, rather than if the person making the joke 'means well' or something.

Aight so if there was any misunderstanding here lemme explain my basic stands on humor and jokes: It's OK to joke about anything, there's nothing immoral or anything like that regarding joking about even the most awful things. As long as you're joking. The morality and such only comes in the picture when being serious and when constructing actual opinions.

Now, while imo it's perfectly ok to joke about anything, the way you phrase it, the timing of it and the context are important.

For example; say your friend's relative just died. you wouldn't crack jokes about how he died in the funeral, imo there's nothing wrong with doing that, you're just being rude and a dick

Personally when i make racist/sexist/dark/etc jokes i'm not doing it for any shock effect. I'm doing it because i find it funny and imo it's perfectly fine to joke about it.

This explanation is probly shit, and there's even a bigger change i completely misunderstood everything, because i'm very very tired atm
