It's kinda like when someone only likes the singles of a band you love. There's nothing wrong with it, people can listen to whatever they want. It's just nice to discuss a band with people who like them as much as you do.

This is true, to a certain extent. But honestly, I'm more interested in the music itself, than the lyrics or any theatricality the band portrays. I mean, I get how (for instance) certain Hardcore bands are all about things like women's rights or condemning abuse or even promoting anarchy. But to me, all of that is just extra stuff. If the music isn't good, I don't like it.

This is pretty much me
I really don't care about the band as people. If I like the music I like it.
I like Rise Against. Don't give a shit about all their vegan and straight edge stuff though.
Music is the one thing where I care about if the person is an asshole or not. I don't know of any musicians I would listen to if it weren't for the fact that I disliked them personally but I don't think I would really be able to make the emotional connection I need with someone I really dislike.
I don't let opposing political beliefs and stuff bother me but I'd probably like The Smashing Pumpkins more if I didn't think Billy was a douche.
I agree with Bob on this one.
For example I like a lot of Steve Vai's stuff and i like him too, but because he can be such a pretentious cock sucker sometimes i don't like him as much anymore
When i listen to music which is more on the emotional side i tend to get into it a lot more, so the person behind it kinda changes my view on it accordingly.
If that makes sense.
I don't care if artists are pretentious. It just makes me hate them more if I don't like them.
Well that's true, if i don't like them then them being dicks makes it much worse than if i do like them lol

This, I like Smashing Pumpkins' music regardless of Billy Corgan being a cunt, and Thom Yorke is also kind of a knob sometimes.
Then there's the Smiths where I'm not too big on their music and Morresey is a knob, and so are his fanboys.

I always saw Vai as pretty humble outside of performing. He's just very much an entertainer when performing, to the degree that he sometimes showboats.

He is big on image though, which doesn't bother me. I could see how that might bother some though...
