I watched this, and they had some decent points against some of the common arguments of what people say don't count as "true" musicians.

So what do you guys consider true musicians? Do they just have to play an instrument, or do they have to write their own music?
Labels, especially something as broad or umbrella as an occupation or genre, is a vague predicate.
I think it also has to do with how some people really want to have some level of exclusiveness when they do something. Like "oh you're not a real anime fan if you don't watch your shows subbed" or "you're not a real music fan if you don't listen to your music on vinyl or cd".

So if a label has a really simple definition, people just want to create "rules" to make themselves seem more "authentic" than others.
The whole label thing is something I actively avoid because I like things to be neat and tidy. Vagueness like that just drives me mad.

That said, I tend to lean more on the side that says that music is subjective.
Well we're talking about musicians, not music.

I feel that a true musician is someone who studies music. A composer writes their own music. A lyricist writes lyrics.

Well it follows the same lines, IMO Confusedhrug:
So is it enough to be considered a musician if you just play an instrument?
