Truf.

Alright, fair enough.

I dunno Sam, I know not the majority of people in the metal community are not psycopaths, but I kinda feel like under the influence of a number of individuals in positions where they could be heard, a lot of people could be dragged into some fucked up shit. Like if any music genre is likely to be associated with a cult that starts murdering people, its definitely most likely to come somewhere from metal.

Or rock in general. Or '60s imitation bands. Or industrial music. Or jazz (New Orleans style). Etc. Etc. Etc.
So many music genres have been tagged as "the devil's music" that it's just asinine.

Idk if you have spam in 'murica, it's shit, and it used to have such cringey ads.

♫ Nice to meet youu
Hope you guess my nameeee ♫
I'm talking less about the "satanic" association and more with the fixation on gore and violent imagery.
I refuse to let my teenage kids listen to rap music because the entire genre is just pimps and hoes and violence and nothing positive. Hip-hop has poisoned our youth and degraded our culture. I do not trust my kids to make their own decisions. Hoodies, tattoos, and young people scare me.
-my writing teacher.
Well then, you probably shouldn't be a teacher. There are pimps and hoes involved, but thats probably half or less of rap these days.
She's actually a cool teacher but she is so ignorant towards hip-hop lol. I'd say hip-hop's influence has been almost entirely positive and I don't think it's fair to label half of it as 'pimps and hoes' (keeping in mind that similar themes are expressed across all genres, especially rock, country, and pop).
Everybody in that class is under the impression that hip-hop is less female friendly than it used to be. lol wat have these people never heard of the 1990s
I brought this up because of the 'metal is satanic' discussion btw.
Yeah, I'm not saying metal is evil or that all metal bands are bad or anything. I listen to a decent amount of "metal" music (Sam may or may not consider it to be so). I'm just saying the stuff people refer to as "metal" or "brutal" can get pretty fucked up, and some people seem to fetishize (probably not a word but whatever) gore and violence. That kind of thing is part of what drove me away from that community, because I like the heavy guitars and the drums, but I could do without the blood, skeletons, entrails, and the like.
Is that stuff evil? No, its just gross. But I feel like by small steps people could get caught up in going from that kind of stuff to actually committing violence against people, if someone were to intentionally try to cause a change in that direction.
Both metal and hip hop get a bad wrap because it is so in your face. Both these genre's will make you violent and what not if you have a frail mental state of mind. That's why I'm against very young children listening to certain types of music. They don't have the mental maturity to just take it for what it is and not too seriously...
My parents blame me getting depression as a teenager on the music I listened to. That's BS. In fact, the "music" was actually calming me down and provided me with my own private safe space. But because I was constantly listening to it they made the false correlation that the music caused my depression.
