I can play a lot of pretty techy stiff, but I can't really shred.
Some Protest the Hero, and BTBAM songs I can do, but then some really fast solos like you'd find in a lot of metal are just a no go
Maybe I'm defining shredding in a weird way though. I usually think of it in a really fast Metallic or Avenged Sevenfold solo kinda way. No idea how other people view it.
Sam: I see.
And Phils, do you mean you can play technical riffs but not necessarily solos? If so thats pretty much how I am too.
So the spambots seem to all be really concerned about our finances.

Yea, like I can play this entire song
But I could practice the solo in this for a month and I seriously doubt I would be able to play it at even 75% speed
Well I guess that solo is a bit ridiculous, but yea, anything in the style probably isn't happening.
I learned how to play Afterlife!
The hardest part for me was at 4:05. I still can't quite play it flawlessly, but in terms of sound, it's probably not noticeable.
Everything past that is just tremolo picking and quick arpeggio sweeps. Definitely takes some practice, but with enough dedication, it's possible.
It's been a long while since I've played that one though, so I'd probably have to re-train myself all over again.
My favorite solo by them is still MIA <3
Starts at 4:40 if anyone wants to know how cool I am. 8)
Not very.
I want to learn that solo sooooooooo much
Maybe I'll start working on it.
I've been working on this, but it's a bitch
solo starts around 2:50. It doesn't sound too hard, but it's all over the place, and it's just slow enough that you really have to make every note ring out.
Though that is kind of BTBAM's signature. Make really really hard things sound really simple. :p
Though you would probably have problem with it if you can play those A7X solos
I know that feeling :haha:
Sounds like fun. Those kind of solos usually are when you know your playing it spot on.

Yea, I can play it slower and it's still fun like that. Just got to get it up to speed!
Oh, and I meant that you would have NO problem with it :p

Don't worry, I saw that missing 'no'.
Professor Garcia misses no no.

:high five:
I shred too much, it actually makes my solos suck :haha:
I also need to start writing solos again at all. I wrote my best two back in like 2011, then I just stopped writing them. On the plus side the rest of my songwriting has gotten massively better since then. And I've learned to sing. So at least I haven't totally regressed.
