Yeah, considering there are entire movements of pro-piracy people, it's sad. Especially as a struggling musician.
I think part of it is also due to wanting instant gratification. With today's high speed nature, some people just can't wait, they have to have it all now

Like let's say someone really likes Green Day, and they want to own their entire discography. They go and look up all of their albums and find out, holy shit they have 13 albums and they're all $10? I have to spend $130 +tax to own all their albums? FUCK THAT

I sit there and tell them "uh, you know you can just slowly buy it all right? You don't have to buy it all at once", and they just seem dumbfounded. When some of them see my various collections, they act like I bought those all at once. No, I've been buying this shit for years, that's why it's that big.
Yeah, it's a shame. Plus to me it's sort of okay to download music provided you're actually going to buy it eventually.

I say this knowing that I use Youtube and what not in order to listen to music but I still try to buy what I listen to.
Well I'm more against the "I deserve to not pay for this" mindset rather than the "I do it but I don't care". The latter is at least acknowledging you're doing something wrong, and you're just being an asshole about it.
Ah, yes, now that you mention it, there is that distinction, and I agree with you.
Sadly the only time I buy an album before I listen to it is when it's a band I'm a massive fan of. Most of the time it's "damn, I wish I owned a copy of this cuz it's awesome".

I did buy my first anime DVD before I watched the show. Mostly because Alexis Tipton's voice is hot, and some of the Youtube trailers were hilarious.

If you have two hours to kill (or just throw it in the background) it's an interesting interview between a guy formerly known as the Internet Aristocrat who interviews two transsexuals and their reaction to Tumblrites. To those of you who aren't familiar with the Internet Aristocrat, he was a Youtuber who was big into the Gamergate deal, and is also a big critic of SJW's on Tumblr and regularly makes videos criticizing their bullshit.
I really hate when I see people throw around cultural appropriation, and usually the people slewing it around know either just as little as the person they're accusing, or even less.

One common example is dreadlocks. Normally it's White people being whined at that they're culturally appropriating something from Black people, despite the fact that ancient Greeks used them and various other ethnicities.

Another one is White people learning Spanish, because you know, White people don't live in Latin America, and Spain totally isn't in Europe.

I can agree with the concept of cultural appropriation, and using things inappropriately is/can be offensive, but at least learn your shit when you're calling people out on shit.
What bugs me is when folks bitch about appropriating music. Music knows no bounds. Yes, X music may develop in Y country. But if X music gets played by someone in Z country, isn't that a good thing?!
It's not Black Metal if it's not from Scandinavia
