aka the ones who never shut up about it.
To be fair, I'm a firm believer that you actually shouldn't shut up about something you truly believe in. Yet, paradoxically, only the more uneducated and/or ridiculous people tend to be the talkative ones (just take the WBC, for example).

For me it's how you bring it up, not what you bring up that causes more problems. My issue is when people basically build their personality around it, or that's all they talk about.
Oh yeah, of course, that annoys me as well, although admittedly IRL I can sometimes get like that myself (regarding cynicism). Of course I try to remain acceptable.

To be fair, not everybody cares. That's the issue. Going on about something nobody else agrees with you on when they've already been given the pitch. It's not exclusive to being a vegetarian or vegan, it's just something that is very common amongst them.
That's true.

I'm sure you guys have seen this before, but I've been thinking about it recently, and I decided that even though I like what Carl Sagan is saying, it doesn't really make any sense. Sure, from a universal perspective the victories and power struggles on earth are totally insignificant, but if you're going to look at it that way then I think the individuals harmed are just as insignificant. Its not really fair to switch perspective on one side and not the other.
They are just as insignificant but if we're all insignificant we might as well be nice to each other.

I could say a lot on this I don't know how to not sound corny so I'll let the discussion continue before I comment further. >_>
I agree we should all just be nice to each other, but his use of perspective to show that is flawed.
Millions and millions of apple pies...

The whole "look at this immense universe we are so insignificant" thing only really applies to people who are already nihilistic, imo. As a theist, one could say "look at God's mighty creation! And in this vast emptiness, the only planet he truly seems to love so much is us! That makes us far from insignificant!", and as a humanist, one could say "we will strive as a civilization. Look at all these unexplored places within the next frontier we have yet to conquer!".
