Actors in higher caliber stuff have coaches so they do it fine, but sometimes in BBC stuff if they have an "American" they just sound really stiff an awkward.

This. This, so, so much. Dr Who has many classic examples of the great BBC American accent - and by great, I mean horrible, just plain horrible.

I've never really liked a lot of the more fantasy/sci-fi-esque BBC stuff, they're generally a bit lame and awkward. I've always thought America did that waaaay better.
How un-British, you're supposed to say your stuff is always better than America.
Do you mean including Doctor Who or besides it? I can't say I've watched any other british sci-fi. The terrible American accents definitely show up elsewhere as well, like anything set in WWII where they have American soldiers.
I love hearing British people trying to do American accents haha. It's so weird.
Golly, may'.

The main shows I mean are ones that run for one series, just a couple of episodes (British seasons are often much shorter than 'Murican - about six or so episodes, sometimes less). There are probably good ones I'm missing, but generally they're pretty weak. I doubt they get shown over there, as they're not all that popular after they've finished - they get re-runs, but only on re-run-specific channels (Dave, Gold or whatever), not on their original channel. ITV and Channel 4 have the odd one too, though BBC seems to make more, because it's the biggest broadcaster.

Other stuff we do quite well, but Sci-Fi? Not often. I think it's partly to do with money and less funding, but mostly to do with resources - less space, less good CGI, less big studios etc. BBC (and ITV for that matter, probably Channel 4 but channel 4 uses it less anyway) CGI is most of the time terrible and looks several years behind American shows.

I said a couple of posts back that BBS fantasy wasn't that great either, but thinking, but some of it's been good - e.g. Merlin, Robin Hood, stuff like that. And the CGI in Merlin wasn't too bad now that I think about it
Speaking of TV resources, when you watch live action Japanese TV, they feel a lot cheaper in the technology department than American TV. Though that's the irony with Japan and technology sometimes. They're claimed to be ahead in the technology department in some aspects, but they're behind America in others.

Look at cell phones, while their flip phones were fairly fancy with all these add-ones you could use, but Android and iPhones recently got popular there and are overtaking the flip phones they loved so much.
Speaking of phones, what are the phones/phone service like in the UK Maps? Because I've heard that Europe (western Europe at least) is more advanced with their mobile technology than the US. Although I suppose you would have had to use phones over here to really have a point of reference.
How'd you mean? Like, the models available? The services provided? Signal? 4G? Because you're probably not asking the right guy, as I'm pretty out of the loop when it comes to mobiles. I'll try to answer any queries though. Tongue
