Wow. I didn't mean to type that. Sorry...lol.

Anyway, it's a bit of "Jewish" habit. Some Jews show respect for God by typing/writing it as "G-d". I tend to slip in and out of that, depending on who I talk to. Some people I talk to, they're very conservative about it; and it's a good idea to use "G-d" rather than "God". Confusedhrug:

Quote:I think people try to correlate atheism to intelligence, as there's some belief where if you can believe that there exists no higher power, you must be pretty smart. As you'll see some atheists always boasting about their "intelligent" reasoning to why they're atheist, and it's usually the same regurgitated ignorant shit like, "well I read the Bible and it didn't make sense, that's why I'm atheist".

It's almost like saying they're atheist makes them look smarter, and they're exempt from making ignorant comments.
Well, the really stupid thing is, when you shove those people into a corner and ask them, "How well have you read the Bible? Did you understand the historical context, for instance? What about when X makes a direct reference to Y, that was 500 pages back?" You know, those kind of questions, it becomes obvious that they just skimmed through it and were like, "I don't get it".

It'd be like reading a chemistry textbook, not understanding it, and then telling a chemist that you think the textbook is dumb. My point is, half the reason people misunderstand complex texts (including the Bible) is because they don't actually study it. And then they act like, after skimming it once, they know all there is to know about that text.
I just find that attitude very arrogant, because there's Jewish scholars who spend their whole lives studying the Bible. It's very rare that any of those scholars consider themselves experts in more than a few select parts of the Bible though. So, the atheist who skimmed through and didn't get it...yeah, he was an idiot in how he went about it.
Sometimes you don't even have to ask them the historical context, some of them are just completely oblivious to the Bible in general, and there's even some that will later say "I haven't actually read the Bible". So I'm curious how you can criticize a book and an entire religion without actually looking up anything on it.

I'm not even religious nor know much about the aspects of Christianity, but seeing shit like that, it's pretty much bandwagoning. I'm not saying you have to study religion to become atheist, but when you're going around criticizing religions, at least research them. You're doing the opposite of making yourself look smart when you're getting into religious debates over a religion you're clueless about against people who know about the religion. I really despise the "I'm atheist so debate me on religion" people because of this.

Yeah, I find that out a lot too, that they haven't even read the Bible (or the Koran or Hindu Vedas, etc.) I mean, I don't debate much about religions besides Christianity, other than to point out a few historical things. Why? Because I don't know enough about other religions. It's that simple, people!

What's really annoying is when you have a friendly religious debate (or even an informed religious vs. nonreligious debate) online, and there's that one guy who thinks he's SO smart for being an atheist and constantly makes demeaning comments. Two comments in, it's quite clear that he doesn't even get what's going on. But it's not even worth telling him to stfu, because then he'll go off on some stupid tangent about how "I think, therefore I am". Ugh!

That bolded part. SO FUCKING MUCH.

I can't remember how many times people just end up sounding like an incredibly dumb version of Dawkins, because they fail to even do basic research. I mean, I dislike Dawkins's reasoning on atheism. (To me, Dawkins's reasoning is filled with logic holes.) But he can pretty much bullshit and make it sound intelligent, because he's that smart. Most people are NOT that smart.
They're really just parroting without doing their own research.
Which bugs the crap out of me. lol
Yeah, I see that shit a lot in other arguments, especially in the anime community with the infamous "dub vs sub" arguments, and you see the same regurgitated points that don't make any sense, and it's obvious they don't know what it means either. "They don't enunciate correctly in the English dubs", like what the hell does that mean? Also gotta give props when they also say they don't pay attention to the Japanese voices when they're criticizing the English ones for being completely wrong.

So yeah, people need to stop parroting shit and actually do some actual research.
Amen to everything you guys just said, haha.
So...on a political note...

This just happened:

Now, regardless of what you think of GMOs or any of that...it's pretty much bullshit that a corporation gets almost complete protection. And Monsanto is well known for being unethical at times.
I have no problem with Genetically Modified food, I think its a great idea actually, but Monsanto is a bunch of dicks. I feel like they're setting our progress on publicly acceptable GMOs back by decades. Glad that got revoked by the senate. (The senate actually did something?)

Well, there's some evidence that GMOs actually aren't as healthy as non-modified food. Which could just be because there hasn't been enough development of GMOs yet. The way Monsanto uses their GMO seeds though...just all kinds of stuff. They got caught putting toxic ingredients in their GMOs a while back. Like, why the fuck is this company even in business still? If I wanted carcinogens in my food, I'd just bake everything with a cigarette mixed in the batter.

Anyway...yeah, the senate agreed for once.

Heh, I just had a conversation in this same vein, except it was about music theory. A few guys didn't get the point of music theory and decided to sit there and deride it.

Again, people not even doing basic research talking shit about something they know NOTHING about.
