I can agree that it is definitely a first world problem. It doesn't really make my life difficult, it would just be nice to be able to buy shirts and pants that fit me better.

Related to our earlier discussion I saw this video on Upworthy
So I've noticed for a long time that some people have difficulty understanding people with foreign accents more than others. I'm not sure if some of them really have difficulty understanding them, or they just lock up when they see a minority with an accent and think "oh shit I don't know what they're saying".

As it's interesting seeing a person with a noticable accent, but depending on who they're talking to, one person will have no problem understanding them or have no idea what they said. I've always noticed this with my mom, and foreign exchange students at school. So it makes me think it's the listener sometimes if one person understands them clearly and another is clueless.
I have a really hard time with thick Spanish accents. I took a spanish class at school and the professor had the thickest accent. I understood about as much of the english as spanish.
I think it takes some people a while to get used to accents. I had a history teacher in high school who had a New York accent. For the first week of class, I remember sitting there going, "I can't understand a word he says" and was so confused. The second week of class, it just clicked, and I knew every word he was saying. All was right with the world again.
Well there's times I see people getting confused, and the person has a very small hint of an accent (or in some cases, no accent), and people freak out and see "oh shit, a Hispanic or Asian person DO NOT UNDERSTAND". Because my sister has no accent, as she's a native English speaker, but she says some people notice she's not white and acts like they can't understand a thing she says.
Just realized that previous embedded video wasn't the right link, let me try again.

I'm the other way actually, I can understand Hispanic accents really well. But I'm not so great with Asian accents sometimes, or indian, just because I don't hear them a lot. Strong Navajo "accents" are the worst though, because the accent is basically slurring your words like you're blacked out drunk. And that I do hear quite a bit, or at least I used to.
Idk, I still believe there's people that lock up whenever they see someone with an accent talking. Especially when it's hardly noticeable. Outside of Atlanta, we've never really lived in places with other Asian people, and the majority of people understand what she's saying, but then every now and then in, she'll run into that one dumbass who thinks she's Hispanic and freak out.

Best part is when you have the "geniuses" who think saying "el___" = speaking Spanish. Like "el this is el taco. Si do you understand el?" This shit happened today.
Or they add "-o" at the end of every word.
Oh yeah, I forgot about that part.
Si, El-I-o el-speak-o El-Spanish-o! (I almost put the english words in german for some reason which would be even more confusing).

I blame Codename Kids Next Door for "The Spanish word for tube is El tube."
