If it was on UG then nope, I haven't read those Ukraine threads
Good, they are pretty stupid on either side for the most part. The only good discussions I've had on this were in real life.
New WA senator Scott Ludlam ripping Abbott a new one:

Yeah, that's usually how most of those threads are. It's almost like you want to drop from the side you're supporting just because those guys are making it look bad.

US - Hey Russia, stop it or we'll like... we'll give you an angry letter telling you how angry we are
Russia - Lol, watch me
US - but what you're doing is bad
Russia - don't care
US - *cry
Thing is, Russia knows that the US isn't equipped to fight a war with them (or any other major power, really).
That being said I don't think Russia is really equipped to fight us either. They've never had a good reputation for having well maintained or up to date equipment. Mostly all they've got is a lot of people. And nukes which may or may not still be functional after all these years.

I don't think anything we do is going to stop Russia, so basically its up to us whether we let them start bullying eastern europe again while we just sit by, or if we want to start WWIII over it.

Yeah, it'd be ugly on both sides.

Basically, and I doubt Obama wants to be known as the guy who willfully started WWIII. Confusedhrug:
Its not like the decision is really up to Obama though. The president is really just a figurehead for the country, he can't do stuff without congressional backing.
Yeah, but because he's the president, he would be the most "blamable" figure. Also, the President can actually move troops into an area without an official declaration of war. (An official declaration requires congressional approval.) Although, it's supposed to curtail armed conflict, the War Powers Resolution has been used as an excuse many times. For example, the actions in Libya, were justified under this law. (Not going to get into whether we should have responded in Libya or not. I just don't feel like it tonight.) Also, you can read how it's rarely enforced.
I really find that silly. Basically presidents don't do shit. Yeah I suppose. Either way, I don't think Obama will get involved unless theirs strong support for it.
