Sometimes I hate buying stuff from stores like Game Stop or from used CD stores and peeling the price tags off of them, as sometimes the price tags don't peel correctly, so they just tear and it's annoying as hell.

fuuuuuuuuuuuuu
lol, "owned"
lol, slippy post. I'm not here to rant though, just talk and hopefully have approval of everyone else. >_>

I accidentally threw away my acceptance letter from the only university I applied to which is a problem because it contains a password that I need to finalise everything. I tried to do it a while ago and it kept saying my password was invalid. Now I don't even know what I did with the sheet. ;_; I guess I have to call the Office of Admissions which will be extremely humiliating.

I don't really care though because after all my stupid fantasising about going to some way prestigious school on another continent, I honestly just want to go to Community College and then transfer to a 'real school'.

This is for three reasons:
1. I could pay for Community College myself, have money to move out, etc. I think this is the right thing to do.
2. I thought I did in the past, but I really don't even have a defined academic goal. Why spend $10,000 of my parents money per year to be indecisive when they can pay $0 while I pay $1,500?
3. I think it's unfair I get to go straight into a four-year 'real' school just because I have rich parents. I think I should have to work my way through it like everyone else. I think it would be a disgrace to be 'successful', but in reality just have everything handed to me.

The preppy counsellor's think I'm an idiot for not going to some out-of-state school but I think I'm doing the right thing.
Well good luck with all that, man Confused
Well I guess if you're not sure what you want to do, then Community College is a good place to start. You can at least get your gen eds taken care of, as that's mostly what you do in the first two years anyway. Let's pray that you don't lose some of your credits when you transfer to a university. I may be talking out of my ass here, but I think that shouldn't be too much of a problem when you transfer to a university near the community college, as it would be bogus that they screw all these transfer students in the area over that, but you never know. So just keep that in mind as it's still a possibility.
Will, I did the community college thing before transferring and really enjoyed it. I like the small vibe of a community college a lot. Also, the classes you take the first few semesters in college aren't really that big of a deal. Everyone takes ones that are pretty similar so it doesn't really matter where you are.

Don't really agree with your number three though. I don't know too many people who actually work their way through school. I know a lot of people with very very little amount of money who go, and barely get any support from their parents, if any at all. That's why student loans exists, and financial aid exists.

If you want to work your way through school, that completely fine (and I think it's pretty smart to start somewhere cheap) but it's not as if everyone you meet there will be getting a full ride on their parents credit cards like you're high school seems to be, going off of what you've said :p
@Grungie: I've already checked all that stuff. It should be good.

@Phils: That's interesting to hear. You are correct in your response to number three. Most people don't have that kind of money, and have to receive financial aid/scholarships/ take out a loan. I am rich and could just get a full ride from my parents, but that just feels wrong. Which is why I want to work through it- I need to go through what the average person goes through, and this is the closest thing I can do.

I just discussed this with my parents and they are livid. They do not understand my reasoning and think I should just take the full ride. I still disagree though, since I care more about becoming an independent adult and maintaining my integrity than I do anything else. I don't think anyone would ever respect me if they found out I just got handed everything, and I certainly would never be able to respect myself. I also just see it as smarter and more cost-effective to start there when I don't even know what I want yet. The reason my parents are so offended is that they want me to have the 'college party experience' and I just can't justify spending all their money for me to go party in some dorms.
I get you. I mean, it's ultimately up to you, and you're doing it for reasons that are important to you which is pretty cool

I can see where you're parents are coming from too in a way. I think most parents just want help their kids if they have the means to do it. But that "college party experience" thing is so dumb.

On the other hand to what I said earlier, I know kids who were also handed everything in the world. I knew one guy (Not friends, he was just in one of my classes) who went to the same community college as me, but his parents payed for him to have an apartment at Penn State for the weekends so he could go there are party. Like, that is for real :haha:
lol at the Penn State apartment.

I get where they are coming from too. If they had spent their entire adult life saving for this I could understand being angry. That's not what happened though. There is no 'I worked my whole life so my kids could go to college' story or anything. For most of my life they said they would be able to pay for community college at best, then we became loaded and now they are just like 'never mind, have at it'.

A side note that might explain some of my overall philosophy: I get that I look stupid saying some of this stuff, and a lot of people (read: UGers :p )are convinced that I'm consumed with guilt and I hate my parents, both of which are false. I just think the respectable wealthy people are those who don't take whatever they want just because they can. I think taking this route will make me more independent and set a better example. That's it in the simplest terms.
Makes sense to me
