Tbh if my ISP provider told me "we're putting a porn block on all of our servers, but if you want to remove it just go type this into your address bar: ______ you can turn it off" I would just turn it off instead of throwing a bitch fit.
The difference between your ISP doing it, and the government is the reasoning behind it. If an ISP decides to do that, they're probably thinking that a portion of their customers (and some potential new customers) would appreciate it if they were blocks on certain things like porn because many of them are parents and would use such a service -- which might result in more potential money and/or customer loyalty (and customer loyalty translates to more money in the long run). It's usually quite obvious that the main motive of an ISP is gain money by providing internet services, after all.
On the other hand, if the government tries to do it, they don't gain any money from it or anything else that directly benefits the government (it may benefit certain politicians, somehow, but not the government as a whole). In fact, it will probably cost the government money (thereby using tax dollars). So, the only motive the government has to do something like that is because they're being paternalistic.

Now, of the two, I'd rather pick the former than the latter. Yeah, the ISP isn't being some golden boy or whatever, but they're not doing it because they want to correct instances of bad parenting involving the internet.
I don't really see either as that bad. Not necessary, but nothing for me to get butthurt over.
Well, I'm pretty against the government being paternalistic, but I also see no reason why the government needs to spend tax dollars on something like that. There's much more important things to deal with, like maybe (for the US anyway) decreasing the national debt. But whatever. Confusedhrug:
I hate it when vegetarians ask me (about meat), "Do you even know how those animals were treated?" I want to strangle them and yell out, "YES! I FUCKING DO! They were raised free range, not given chemicals/steroids, fed natural grains, and killed humanely! Do I treat animals ethically enough for you, you judgmental prick?". Ugh!
Fuck that shit, I'll eat them however they were treated
Well, I don't judge anyone for how they eat animals. And it's not like I go to McDonald's and ask, "Was this animal treated ethically?". But I do try to treat animals ethically in general and eat animals that were raised ethically. It just bugs me when people try to judge you without even knowing a damn thing about you or what you do. It's called they're on a moral high ground.
Naturally.
