By reminding you of past failures. In a thread that is meant for consolidation and support ;___;

Are they common? Or is it just that you notice them more? Or even that you amplify their good qualities or 'potential' for being a polymath? It's easy to be negative, so surely not be negative about oneself is a goal - with potential success - in itself?

Don't take IQ tests as gospel, they're not definite.

This isn't strictly true. There are certain 'windows' of approximate ages that it is best to learn things, i.e. learning a language before the age of 7, or accents may present difficulty. That sort of thing. It doesn't mean you can't become fluent in Japanese if you so desire though. And it does become more difficult to remember things with age, simply because your brain has more to remember, but you can always learn new things. But don't worry about memory loss or age, because that leads to anxiety, which can and will inhibit your memory, because you're so focused on not not remembering, it's more difficult to concentrate on that which you want to remember.

Maybe I notice them more. Yeah, I guess you're right. But at the same time being negative may just incite me to reach more goals.

Alright.

True. Alright.

I guess I'm more concerned with not taking advantage of my youth. I often feel like I'm wasting it and am a little afraid of getting older :\

The potential danger in this is it could lead to wallowing in negativity. It's an excellent thing to turn negativity into positive actions (for example, fulfilling goals), but the danger is that you could get depressed. Of course, then the danger is that you don't anything because you're depressed.

See what I mean?

Point is, I would only focus on the negative to the degree that you use it to achieve the positive.

Maybe try something like this. Assume you'd set a goal of running around the block of your neighborhood daily and another goal of cleaning your room weekly. The next day, it rains, however. So, rather than complaining about the rain, you clean your room for that week and then go running after you feel good about having a clean room. See? Negative into positive!
That's a good idea. Thanks! I'll try something like that out. Summer's almost here so I'm going to have a lot more free time to learn new things anyway.

Yeah I used to be more optimistic about things but that only made me satisfied with the little I actually had. But yes, some negativity is okay because it inspires and pushes one to get a move on.

I actually made it a plan last New Years to learn something new every single year. This year it's piano (but school is definitely being a nagging bitch that gets in the way).
So, a friend of the family died today, which was kind of ironic because (like my family) she celebrated the Jewish Festivals. Today just happens to be the Festival of Shavuot (aka Pentecost, "First Fruits"). It's good in a way, because she was old and kind of tired, if you catch my meaning. But we're all rather sad tonight. Sad
Your family must be devastated with these two deaths :\

Sorry to hear that, man. My condolences.
Well, I mean, both deaths are good (in a way) because both people were ready to pass on. But yeah...it's...I don't think we really even know how to take it...
I hate not knowing how to feel, I know what it's like :\
This might not apply to you , but when i feel like that what i do is give myself some time to just not give a fuck. Spend some time relaxing until i feel better and confident again. Now, while trying to come yourself down and relax you might think you're wasting a lot of time, but the way i see it is if you'll try to do what you have to do while feeling all anxious and stressed out you're not going to good in what you're doing and you're gonna harm yourself. So it's better to spend that time making sure you're ok.

Again, this might not help you, but maybe give it a shot. Because living in anxiety and stress in no good way to live your life.
