Lemme copy and paste what I posted on UG in the Pony thread:
Also when they find out that Heathcliff (or whatever his name was) was the final boss, it was just random out of nowhere shit. They killed a boss, and then Kirito goes "hey, I think you're the final boss aren't you?" and Heathcliff goes "MWAHAHA you found out my secret, try and kill me" then he kills Asuna and Kirito, then they wake up and Heathcliff goes "even though I killed you guys in the game, I let you live because I got bored, so I'm deleting SAO and waking everyone up, thanks for playing"
Well maybe nothing happens might be a bad description (maybe I just think nothing happens because they spend so much time having him hang out with random one shot characters), but it jumped around way too much, and nothing really connected. Also talking to fans of the show, all the plot holes I found, they just explained it with "well it happened in the time skip, duh". Idk, that just seems like lazy to me, unless that's all in the Light Novel and the show ignored it.
Quote:a lot of nothing happened in the show. Like, here, let's spend all this time having Kirito be Ash Ketchum and hang out with random one episode characters, and you never hear from them again. Then "ZOMG I MAGICALLY FUCKING LOVE ASUNA RITE NOW". Also all that glopping in chapter 16.5, glop glop glop.
Then the second half basically did the same thing, but tried to fill in with some lame drama with his cousin being in love with him, irl and in the game, but his heart is only for Asuna, who is no longer badass alpha chick who makes awesome sandwiches, but now is just a shitty damsel in distress character who gets molested by a lame elf guy.
Their romance also felt really tacked on. Also the show had too many time skips, and there were times where I was sitting there thinking "when the fuck did this happen?" and it's "implied" it happened in the time skip since the last episode, and they didn't feel like explaining it, or they'll say "I got this 6 months ago, don't worry about it".
I might have to read the light novel, because the show had really terrible pacing and jumped around too much, and the light novel apparently isn't like that.
