So I'm a big fan of Studio Shaft, and everyone talks about the show Puella Magi Madoka Magica, and I looked at it and figured it was just your typical magical girl show, but with some of Shaft's signature animation techniques. Then I find out its purpose is to be a deconstruction of the magical girl genre, and become srs buisiness. So it starts off in typical magical girl fashion, being all full of cutesy love and happiness, and then devolves into the opposite of the genre as a tragedy with death, despair and isolation. So it's kind of interesting seeing a take on a genre that's 99% bubblegum pop, and turn it into a dark fantasy.
It's apparently highly regarded, and to the point where a member of Production IG (famous for Neon Genesis) said it was even better than Neon Genesis, and inspired him to contact the same writer to create a gruesome dystopian crime thriller called Psycho Pass.
So I'm gonna go jump into this shit and find out if this is supposed to be as amazing as everyone says.
