I agree with the lack of depth, though I do recall they did say Kirito actually did a lot of grinding, just off screen. But I also hated how they had all these episodes where he meets all these people and helps them, but you pretty much never saw those people again. It was almost like how Pokemon is.
Though it does seem a bit hypocritical for me to talk about shows lacking depth, as I'm a big fan of pointless slice of life shows, but when it comes to an action series, I do want more out of it.
I think there was a big pre-air hype, as I do have to admit the main concept of the show does sound pretty exciting, and the first two episodes were really good.
The same author as SAO has a show called Accel World which is similar, but IMO is much better.
