Ha, well I feel like everyone goes through that kind of process in their heads, like "I dunno, I've heard this thing sucks" but then after you have some experience with it you realize its not bad. Or the other way around, everyone says its awesome but it turns out to be shitty. He's just broadcasting that opinion to everyone.
I tend to ignore product reviews unless they're universally bad. A lot of people are dumb about the way they review products ("This $1 spatula from Walmart didn't cure my cancer! 0 stars!"), or someone gets unlucky and theirs is defective or something. And really I've found, especially with musical gear, I have no idea whether I like something or not until I've had it for like 2-6 months so that I've had time to try everything on it.
