PETA and similar organizations don't always see the bigger picture. Our equivalent of PETA are all up in arms because our biggest nature reserve wants to cull some elephants because the population density is way over the limit. Yes, they are protected and we did such a good job protecting them that there are now too many for that particular reserve. They have exported the majority before deciding to cull. What PETA doesn't realise is that elephants are highly destructive, that's just how they feed. So if the population is too high, they destroy more habitat which starts to endanger other animals. So by limiting the number of elephants, they don't cause significant destruction and they have more place to roam which mean that they are less likely to become aggressive and territorial. It's a nature reserve, not a zoo...
