Slipknot - carlcockatoo - 09-07-2014

As those from UG know, I was a huge Slipknot fan when I was 13. Then I went to hating their music, aside from some of the eerie atmospheric songs which I have always thought are good. I've been listening to them again for the past couple of days and I have started to like more of their work again.

I still can't stand a lot of their music but they can be a really good band when they want to be. I would say that they are up their with Tool as one of two metal bands I like (three if you count Nine Inch Nails's metal-influenced work). Usually I cannot stand metal music, but when I listen to Slipknot it's like I suddenly understand metal.

Like in this song for example:

Despite it's major flaws (vocals are kind of corny) I actually feel groove to it. You can't really dance to it, but I understand why people do what they do at metal concerts when I hear something like this, while with most metal I just stand there and think 'wtf is this'.

This song has a bit of a 'butt rock' chorus but despite that it shows that they are good at making slow, sombering music as well:

Even when they are being obnoxious it's still entertaining music because of how over the top it is:

And as I've said, they really have a talented for writing music that is creepy in a good way:

That eminent apocalypse vibe.

I was looking forward to the new album when I heard the really eerie teasers but I don't like either of the new full songs so I don't know.

Iowa is bad.

Discuss my impeccable tastes in music.

Sam's gonna be pissed for having this in the metal forum, but I like some of their singles. I never bothered to look into their albums.

He'll rub his beard all over you until your skin gets raw.

Butt rock? haha.

I've never cared much for Slipknot except sometimes when Corey Taylor actually sings, like Psychosocial. He has a really nice voice when he's actually singing.

Just go for Stone Sour then.

He doesn't always sing in Stone Sour either though.

I saw Stone Sour live when I went with my friend to a butt-rock concert. 8)

Slipknot is better in my opinion.

He seems like he does it more often than he does in Slipknot.

I might go see them here pretty soon but they're like sixty bucks
