RE: Community Thread - WCPhils - 07-11-2013 Will, if I lived where you lived I would want to get out of there too :haha: RE: Community Thread - carlcockatoo - 07-11-2013 (07-11-2013, 04:51 AM)WCPhils Wrote: Will, if I lived where you lived I would want to get out of there too :haha: He gets it. And if out of state US schools weren't so expensive my chances of going to England would reduce sharply. The only affordable out of state school that is any good that I am aware of at the moment is Minnesota Twin Cities campus, and it costs roughly the same amount as going to England. It's not going to be the end of the world if I end up stuck here but I'm not really happy after being here for a year so I feel justified in wanting to leave. RE: Community Thread - BobSacamano - 07-11-2013 There are very few "things" I'd buy. I have the Office Space dream for money. Doing nothing and being happy about it. This would involve doing nothing all around the globe though. An Idiot Abroad taught me that the tourist trap places are generally pretty lame.Fuck the wall and the pyramids and all that. I just think all the cultures would be cool. If being far away from home isn't a problem then go to Britain or whatever. The US is so big that there isn't really a difference. I hear so many people say things like, "I wouldn't go to school overseas because it's too far from home" but then go to school in California (mind you, I live in PA) Like once your that far away it doesn't really matter where you are. California, and London or California and Barcelona aren't that different once your taking a plane every time you come home Which is why I would like to revise my previous post. Strike Cali from my list of places. If I was gonna move somewhere that far I would choose somewhere more exotic :p RE: Community Thread - Grungie - 07-11-2013 I don't wanna sound like a jerk, but this just kind of feels like the usual run of the mill "where I live sucks and I want to go study elsewhere, and my story is different" story I've heard the billionth time. I factored that into my decision, although I'm still going to apply to Minnesota. I would consider moving to California (I have actually been there and Arizona is almost like a Republican version of southern California with different driving laws and such lol). I thought you would say that. I wouldn't leave if the universities weren't better (my local university is actually really good in agricultural science and a few other things but is not so well in other areas), and several of the places I'm applying to in Britain frequent all those top 50 lists and such, which I can't say about my local university (I bet my Russell Group degree is more reputable anywhere outside the Southwest). I'm really not even planning on staying wherever I leave to yet, but I have a feeling if I just stay living in my parents for the next four years and do the safe thing, I'll regret it, especially with the legitimate benefits of going to a more prestigious school. Also since I genuinely dislike where I live at the moment. Would you still think I'm stupid if I was going somewhere I've already been before? Like really, lol They basically said that you can't act like a tourist. Don't stay in big chain hotels or eat in tourist trap spots. Don't follow the tour thingys. Just visit the cities and talk to people on where the cool stuff is and go find it you own. Basically, not relying on the tourist companies wherever you are to plan what your going to do so they can make money off of you being foreign. :haha: (07-11-2013, 05:03 AM)Grungie Wrote: I don't wanna sound like a jerk, but this just kind of feels like the usual run of the mill "where I live sucks and I want to go study elsewhere, and my story is different" story I've heard the billionth time. Like, the desert would be somewhere I would just want to get away from so bad :/ (07-11-2013, 05:07 AM)carlcockatoo Wrote: I factored that into my decision, although I'm still going to apply to Minnesota. Oh yea, didn't mean to say you shouldn't. Just that for me if I was applying to a school 3000 miles away from me in my own country I wouldn't let going overseas seem like an impossible thing. RE: Community Thread - Grungie - 07-11-2013 Back on the topic on Chicago, has anyone else noticed that every Black person has a relative in Chicago? RE: Community Thread - WCPhils - 07-11-2013 Yes :haha: RE: Community Thread - carlcockatoo - 07-11-2013 (07-11-2013, 05:09 AM)WCPhils Wrote: They basically said that you can't act like a tourist. One on hand, it's annoying, but on the other, sometimes you can meet local people unless it's a chain located right in a tourist trap area. Edit: I'm not suggesting anyone actually do that, in fact that wasn't as related to the post as it seemed at the moment. |
