Jesus christ, people who comment on BBC articles, terrible fucking people. I'd honestly rather be here than the UK right about now.

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-middle-east-22813207

Check comments. Article's not really important as it's just about brown people in need of help because everything they've built has been ripped apart by fa- *snores*

Did I mention that they're dumb? I don't think so. They're dumb.

RE: Community Thread - Grungie - 06-07-2013

I've seen worse on Yahoo news and Youtube.

RE: Community Thread - carlcockatoo - 06-07-2013

I never read BBC comments except when I occasionally skim over the editor's picks. From what I just read on that article (and from others in the past) there are lots of dumb BBC posters but an equal number of non-stupid, more moderate posts. There is a more balanced dumb/non-dumb ratio than on sites like Fox but whenever I've been to Fox news all the international news is tucked away in some dark corner of the site anyway. BBC, as far as I can tell, is free from EDL people and the like.

This war is very depressing though, holy hell.

Edit: Yahoo and especially Youtube make Fox commenters look intelligent, although I only go to Yahoo news when I have to (like when my anti-UK journalism class made me go to 'credible' sources like Yahoo so I always used the BBC for my assignments to drive them crazy >_>)

RE: Community Thread - WCPhils - 06-07-2013

Yahoo has the stupidest comments I have ever seen.

It's not even close really.

I would say it is fun to troll them but it's almost too easy.

RE: Community Thread - AliR - 06-07-2013

I'm not really talking about the Editor's Picks. Those might either be agreeable or not, but they don't display the same levels of insensitivity, racism and frankly mental instability/conspiracy theory fanaticism as the other comments. The dumb:not-dumb ratio is surprisingly uneven in that article.

I'm honestly glad that I live in a conflict zone and not the UK. I feel like within a week of living there I'd be killed cuz I'm a 'raghead' and 'muzzie'.

I wasn't talking about the editor's picks (with that article). I read the first ten or so and it was mostly people just saying it's sad, except this guy:

Quote:As we all know, occupation of "Muslim land" brings beheading of our soldiers. Do we get brownie points for feeding the "Muslim land" then?

And this guy:

Quote:20. dave "What they want to say your £10 could buy a bullet to kill a child £1000 could kill the whole family sorry I have to go to the bathroom to throw up this is by far the most obscene appeal I have seen in my life"

I agree, a bullet shouldn't cost more than around 20 p at the most.

I'm sure it gets worse but I normally don't bother reading news comments because they are awful everywhere.

I mean, obviously there are tons of racist in the UK but I don't think that discredits the place. Likewise, I read in a local online article that America is a 'white nation (no offence to the natives who were here first and the blacks we forcefully brought with us olololo)', and while there clearly is a huge race issue I don't think America I can't say I'd rather live in a war zone than be a minority here.

Edit: Oh wow, look at what 'Proud Welshman' had to say:

Quote:We in the west have no real understanding of the deep-rooted and historic enmities that exist between the many sub-divisions to be found within Arab society. They go back centuries. Periodic blood-letting is a part of their culture. It might be distasteful to us but we can't alter a culture...as we've learned to our cost in the course of our other middle-eastern (mis) adventures. Leave well alone

RE: Community Thread - AliR - 06-07-2013

First page dude. It gets to the point where people are all agreeing that no one should help these people and they should be left to die because 'that place is just people killing each other'. Then one dude, getting RIGHT to the point, saying something like 'we shouldn't be helping them we have enough on our plate with the immigrants'. At least he didn't dance around it or veil it in humanism? haha

Yeah, I think the US is a lot less racist right now. Feels weird to say. I just feel like I should be living somewhere, in the west, where people are less likely to go "a brown person! I wonder if he knows the guys who did 9/11" and more likely to be like "a brown person! he must have a large penis!".

It's definitely just as bad, it's just a different dynamic. There certainly are tons of white Americans who will say things like that first line. I feel both in the UK and US, the younger generation is less racist and more likely to make sarcastic comments like the second one(general statement, the racism I hear at my school everyday is apalling. Black people aren't real Americans, immigrants (Mexicans in particular, kind of like how anti-immigrant UK twats are always after the Pakistanis ,Romanians, Somalians, etc.) are plotting to take over the nation, etc.).

There is no 'American Defence League' or 'American National Party' or any of those stupid things (unless you count the KKK but they aren't too significant any more other than certain towns in the South)but America is a post-segregation society (I wonder what Debbie has to say on this >_>) with institutionalised racism and all that. I guess what I'm saying is the UK and US have serious race problems, but the dynamic is different.

Edit: With that said, I wish this ultra-conservative phase in the UK would just be over already. That's probably in part what makes it seem more racist is UK politics vs. US politics at the moment.

A bit off topic but I found an interesting study about France. Everyone seems to think France is the most anti-immigration place in the Western world even though 10% of the population is immigrants (and anywhere between 5-10% are Muslims), and this study I read had all these surveys showing that Middle Eastern expat/immigrant communities are happier in France than any other Western nation. If anyone cares I'll try to find it.
