Resizing of avatars - there - 02-13-2014

In the User CP only uploaded images are resized to adhere to avatar limitations. Linked images just get rejected. If linked images could be automatically resized too that would be easier.

I'm not really sure if we can fix that. Though I thought it did resize images from links...

The funny thing is, if you upload a gif from your computer, it tells you the size is too big, but it'll ignore it when you use a URL.

For me with gifs from an url it tells me the image is too big and fails, and if I upload a gif it changes the dimensions but reduces the file size too so it plays 50kb's worth.

RE: Resizing of avatars - Grungie - 02-13-2014

I meant the actual size of the file, not the dimensions. So if your gif is bigger than 150x150, it'll get rejected, but if it is 150x150 or under, but bigger than 50kb, it'll still use it if you upload from a URL.

It probably does that for regular images as well, but I'm not sure you can have a PNG or JPG that's 150x150 that's over 50kb.

So I'm not sure if this is something you can actually fix, or this is just how the MyBB software works.

Do you know any way to change the dimensions of a gif? Guessing I can't just put it into word and drag the corner inwards.

I'm not familiar with programs that can do it, but you can go to online sites like: http://www.online-image-editor.com/ and you can resize/crop gifs. The quality might have to be a bit compromised but that depends if you want to go through and get a gif extractor and resize each individual frame, then compile it back to being an animated gif.

Install gimp for free. Open it, and load the gif. Use the tool that allows resizing of gifs. ????. Upload it.

Thanks I'll have a look at the site Grungie posted soon since I don't have a computer to download gimp.
