General Film-discussion - ln cognition - 06-13-2013

By now, the "Favourite Film"-thread has basically turned into this anyway, I know, but as I'm something of a deviant on this forum and actually strive for some sense of seeming on-topicness, I thought I'd make this thread since my post wouldn't actually fit in that thread by its original boundaries.

So, basically... discuss films and stuff...

I just watched "The Hunt" (Jagten), a danish movie staring Mads Mikkelsen, and damn... that was some powerful stuff. Anyone else who's seen it Have you seen it, Ali (let's be realistic here, guys)?

It does serve a nice function, though. This isn't that other forum, where everything has to be condensed into 5 only threads.

I'm seeing This is the End and Man of Steel this weekend. Pretty pumped

RE: General Film-discussion - ln cognition - 06-13-2013

Report back on man of Steel, plx. Don't think I've heard of the other one. Is it the one with thos post-apocalyptic looking posters?

RE: General Film-discussion - WCPhils - 06-13-2013

Yea, the one with Seth Rogen, James Franco, Danni McBride, ect, all playing themselves

RE: General Film-discussion - AliR - 06-13-2013

Haha nah, I haven't seen The Hunt yet. I saw it on a top ten list somewhere though, and I forgot about it until now. I'll see about getting it.

I want to watch Man of Steel and This Is The End too. That + Pacific Rim are my most looked forward to US films. My friend said that he was disappointed by Man of Steel, but another said that it's the best Superman film in a long time, one the character deserves, but not a masterpiece.

Also I don't watch that many films anymore. I've only seen Eternal Sunshine today, and I'm about to watch Bridge on the River Kwai. The reason is I'm reading a lot lol. I have three days to finish this book and write a short (very short) something about it. I spent most of today reading so I didn't have time. I'm gonna watch Kwai now tho.

Thanks for making a thread where I will permanently live :p

RE: General Film-discussion - WCPhils - 06-13-2013

Yea, Pacific Rim looks good

Also looking forward to Elisium, new Wolverine, and the new Simon Pegg and Nick Frost movie (Can't remember the name) for this summer. Probably won't be very good but I kind of want to see World War Z. I'm a sucker for a disaster movie :p

I love the sumer blockbuster season. Completely different from all the movies I watch right before the Academy Awards an stuff, lol

RE: General Film-discussion - ln cognition - 06-13-2013

I watched Eternal Sunshine in a spotless mind not to long ago (assuming it's that one). I watched it quite some time ago, and remembered it as being really good. It didn't really live up to my memory, but it's still a nice flick. =/

Btw, do you have access to new films by normal, physical means, or do you have to use the internet?

RE: General Film-discussion - AliR - 06-13-2013

Oh, World's End, yeah that's gonna be incredible. I don't even need to see it haha.

There's also Before Midnight (Linklater), Her (Jonze) and Only Lovers Left Alive (Jarmusch, so this better be good).

Oh yeh, let's not forget Nymphomaniac. I'll probably see BOTH the "safe" and "porn" cuts.

Any access to films is internet only :/

And I wasn't disappointed by Eternal Sunshine, I've seen it before. It's a 'nice' (lol) little flick for sure. It has these really, really great moments and Jim Carrey's acting is incredible. I enjoyed it a lot, but I pretty much see why it was a hipster #1 for quite some time. Not Kaufman's best, but probably not his worst.

Totes forgot to include Only God Forgives in my looked forward to list. If the Cannes reaction is anything, this is the greatest film ever made.
