I'm telling your parents you're sharing your age. I don't want Chris Hansen knocking on MTB's door

Again.

The default sounds fullestDifferent systems react differently to EQ presets. I have a small sub & two tweeters, so anything that boosts mids sounds good on my system. For metal or other heavy music, a tiny bit of bass boost really brings out some power too. If I don't EQ stuff with those, it all sounds like a quiet muddy mess.

I still have to EQ for some older bands and such; old school Thrash metal, for instance, sounds like a mess without EQ. Of course, that's probably partly due to the fact that 192k audio isn't the best sound in the first place, lol. But you do what you can to make it sound ok.

Well wasn't old school thrash metal recorded "badly" anyway? It's kind of like expecting a "good" sound from Neutral Milk Hotel.

I always thought you were 2-3 years (or more) older than me. Fantasyman, you're doing quite well for your age. EQ discussion: Slightly related- I was in a studio with my friend for his metal(ish) band's album and the technique his 'producer' used was to compress the fuck out of everything, emphasise bass frequencies, and use tons of delay lol. Was not really impressed with him to be honest (my friend played him up a lot). He uses the same software and techniques I use (reaper with the free built in EQ/Compressor lol). The expensive recording equipment and being around other, more qualified producers/engineers is what makes anything I saw sound good. For the genre it was alright though. I was just messing with some of this stuff today and I think that if I actually try I could be really good at it. Oh and his virtual guitar tones sounded so bad to me. I don't get how people like those, though to be fair he was just throwing on the default distortion to cover up the mistakes in their 'clean' playing. |
