"or anything that is your neighbor's"

I think that the wife is listed as a possession along with the house and ox is quite clear. It also implies ownership of humans with the servants.
I always thought it meant his house specifically. Like, taking his. Not wanting one that was similar.

Surely that would come under theft? Making it all a bit redundant Tongue

Even still, why not covet that specific house?
I guess coveting the house could lead to stealing or something, but like you said, it's redundant with the theft one it that's what it's aiming for.

I pretty much agree with your whole post though. I always found most of the to be commandments quite silly really.
Agreed, so what would you have instead? I'm gonna think of mine now.
The only part that I disagree with is this

Quote:This is a worthless commandment. It offers no moral insight, only an introduction. That you may have no gods before him seems odd, seeing that anybody looking for the truth after becoming disillusioned with another religion is already buggered.
By saying, "You shall have no other gods before me" I take it as meaning you should hold no other to a higher standard. Not, you believed in the Sun God (just some random shit I'm making up for this) as a child so you are not allowed to believe in me now.

This is hard. Like I feel like you could just have a couple clear statements to cover the whole thing but Don't Murder and the obvious shit should probably be thrown in for good measure.

Actually that's completely right, not sure why I went on that angle. I've got 5 commandments so far.

Okay, I got mine

1. Do not discriminate against people because of their innate nature

2. Never use violence, or the threat of violence, in romantic relations

3. Realize that every human on earth is your brother or sister, and act accordingly

4. Remove from society those that wish to impose their own morality upon it

5. Promote scientific endeavour at every opportunity, it is how you will come to understand the universe

6. Do not assume control over anybody's body

7. Do not punish or try to dictate how or what a person thinks

8. Do not bear false witness against anyone

9. Never end a life except in defending that of another

10. Don't keep dogs
1. Don't murder, rape, enslave or steal you fucking moron
2. Try not to judge others for doing what affects no one else, or for what they were born with
3. Respect diverse beliefs and ways of life
4. Don't seek to make lives worse, try to enrich your life and the lives around you
5. Think and be aware of the feelings of others and act accordingly

I can't think of anything bad that can be done with these but I'm sure there's loopholes and stuff I'm missing. I'm tired and don't feel like thinking about it more right now. But an awesome society could be formed with these simple things I think
Well by spreading out 1 and 2 you'd probably have 10 you div
