I worked black friday. Lots of people from high school noticed me and even though I like them individually it reminded me of how happy I am to be out of that environment once they got their things and left. >_>
Personally I've been trying to distance myself from all this consumerism shit. Not in an edgy 'fuck materialism' way. I'm okay with people buying shit they like (I am guilty), but not when so much of it just amounts to status symbols. My parents went out and bought so much shit for me that I never even asked for (they just came home with it one day); not because I needed it but because they were embarrassed that there are richer people than us with kids that have more. Just yesterday my dad was like 'you're getting a new phone whether you like it or not' and honestly I'd feel like shit running around with an iphone or something flaunting my wealth.
My dad comes home from work everyday and just looks at four million dollar houses and drools over them. When we first moved here he'd drive me around the richest area of the city for some 'quality time' and talk about 'this is what life is all about'. Today he was going on about how our 40 inch HD tv isn't good enough and he wants a 70 inch tv. wtf.
And of course we live in a $200,000 house with a pool (disgraceful) and he thinks we're lower-middle-class and always talks about how we need more money.
A lot of this is a repeated rant, but at least it's relevant. My point isn't to throw anyone under the bus and talk shit, but just that this type of materialism is so sad.
nice dream joel lol
