How is it not practical? I'm sure companies like Google have huge amounts of data stored that they'd love to be able to keep on a couple meters of tape. Like I said, I doubt its intended for consumer use at all.

Because Cloud Storage, man. I mean...maybe they'd want to back up the cloud on physical media. But everything is stored in the Cloud now. So...
hrug:
Well isn't cloud storage still physically stored somewhere? Or am I just completely clueless about this?

Basically, it's stored on some internet server. If I run an app "in the Cloud" and then save some data, my user data is stored on a large server. So, in general, that means some company like Amazon or Google or such has warehouses of mainframe-sized servers to handle and store all this data.
I guess I just don't see anything replacing that (in the short-term).
Eventually, maybe the ability to store data in an "actual cloud" so to speak, by storing data in radio-wave and other wavelength forms that would float around your area until you need to access and edit them. But we're nowhere near that kind of concept. That's SciFi shit, right there.

On a different note, the Fox got permabanned. lol
And now I have no one to argue with, who is as entertaining as him.
It's about goddamn time he got permabanned. I always figured the mods kept In around as some kind of bad joke, and for amusement.
Speaking of permabanned, that Terror guy got himself permad on Fanta's forum. Basically since that whole shit that went down a couple months ago on here that resulted in his forum ditching him, he got banned 3 times on there since then. What perplexes me, is that all three times he got banned, it wasn't for constantly breaking the rules, it was him sitting there thinking "today I'm going to see how big of a twat I can be", then he tries to break as many rules as he can. All three times, he made a spam thread, then it resulted in him flaming people, this time he had extra points for racial slurs.
Somehow this motherfucker thinks he's popular, and he wonders why he's hated everywhere he goes.
lol, damn. He sounds like the kind of guy whose skull we should crack open, just to see how his brain works. lol
I think he knows, but he puts on the "baw nobody likes me" act to get pity from others. He knows when he pisses off people, because he'll go into ass kissing mode. After he pissed me off, he would say shit like "as someone I have always respected and looked up to". That shit is fake as fuck.
My favorite is when he's mad at you, and he tries to pull on your heart strings by going "I thought we were friends, and I always looked up to you and respected you, and after all I've done for you, this is what I get? If I never made that forum, you never would have met those other users!". I just sit there and think "cool story bro"
So I saw Ian's parting message, it's little to no surprise of mine that he's a troll, but that diaper fetish.

Yeah, I think most people figured that out. I just found him entertaining.

Well the server has physical memory storage. The tape could be used instead of the current hard disk drives, thats how computers used to work (you probably know that, I'm just stating it). Access time is a problem with tape but I guess you could have it in multiple sections or something? I dunno. I imagine whatever techniques they use will soon be applied to disk drives as well since disks and tape are basically the same technology.
