Since there's a thread about BoC and Autechre, I thought we could just discuss IDM in general. IDM stands for Intelligent Dance Music, which we can all agree is a stupid title and most IDM artists dislike it, but we'll just use it for the sake of convenience.

I personally would say the big 4 of IDM would be:

Aphex Twin (aka AFX, Polygon Window, Caustic Window, etc.)
Boards Of Canada (aka Hell Interface)
Autechre
Plaid

Boards Of Canada would be my favorite by far, as their discography is imo the most consistently good discography, and their music hits me in the feels the most. Aphex is great too, and I would say I like his production the best, but I think he goes a little overboard on the fast glitch drum sound. I like early Autechre because their use of harmony and nice timbres, but their more recent stuff has a computer-going-haywire sound that I don't care for. And Plaid seems to be the most diverse of the bunch and I like their incorporation of Jazz in their music.

Other than those guys, lesser known IDM artists that I personally like are:

Ochre - Ochre is great as he has a master's in music and produced a lot of his music while he was in school, so he collaborates with a lot of classical instrumentalists like harpists, violinists, pianists, etc. Plus a lot of his compositions seem to have a Zelda influence.

Bibio - I really have only listened to the Ambivalence Avenue album that everyone likes. His stuff isn't totally IDM and can be pretty folky.

Helios - More ambient and does great remixes.

Cepia - He's got a pretty moody sound that can be nice.

These would be good tracks from each IDM artist listed:

This track has one of the best, most haunting chord progressions.
