entry level is just simple stuff or stuff with tame themes
Like not gonna rec To Love Ru to somebody as their first anime. It might not be some complex masterpiece but it definitely isn't "entry level"
Hhhhehhhehehehhheeheeeh
Anyways I kinda see the term as half and half. I think only the anime eliteists use it as a derogatory term, but on the other hand I don't think any anime was made with the aim of being categorized as entry-level, so it's subjective.
I tend to use more mainstream appeal, so it headless negative connotations than entry level. I'm just used to too many pricks using it as an elitist term.
Well considering I'm asking to be recommended some first anime I can't actually afford to be elitist about it, can I?
I don't really see it as derogatory, if anything, I see it as meaning good for getting into the genre.
It's not really the whole newbie thing, I'm just too used to seeing people use it as a derogatory term as it's inferior quality for being popular and non-anime nerds enjoying it. When you see someone use it like that, you'll know exactly why I hate seeing it used.
Anywho, I think SAO is kind of a crappy series. It has potential, but the storytelling in the anime is pretty bad (especially with the pacing), and the second half of the first season is pretty godawful. The first season is the only show I've actually dropped. I gave the show a second chance when season 2 started up, and it's better, but it still has similar problems like the first season.
It's really a mixed bag tbh, so you'll either love it or hate it. I haven't seen Attack on Titan, but there's more praise for that one, or try A Certain Magical Index, as that's a personal fave of mine.
First show should be Cowboy Bebop, Trigun, Darker than Black, Evangelion, rurouni kenshin, fullmetal achemist, could list more but at work. Look them up and take your pick.

Was never really interested tbh.
