Castle in the Sky was actually my favorite as a kid but I haven't seen it since. The whole concept of Laputa was so unbelievably fascinating to me.
And
that robot
Apparently all of those movies/games that are about finding a lost civilization were inspired by that movie.
Yeah, it's like the cool parts of Lost and Prometheus. I got the same feelings from them.
I love when certain animation studios put a lot of effort into their backgrounds. Makes the experience of enjoying the shows more fun.

Agreed. It's like sex for your eyes.
Kyoto Animations makes tv shows, and their animation quality is usually pretty good.
They put a ton of detail into this one girl's room for the few minutes out of the entire 22 episodes just for the hell of it:
Luckily someone on Tumblr appreciated the detail in her room as much as I did.
Damn, that's awesome. It makes it feel like a little girl's room. Most TV shows just make a very minimalist room that always feel like it's occupied by a neat freak (which doesn't make sense to me, because they're always stating how certain characters are slobs, and the slobs never have messy rooms).
Kyoani's gotten a lot better with their details. Their other show K-on has some good stuff, like the guitars in the show actually look pretty good (and use real guitar models), and the music store is a good example:
I watch Bleach a bit (I know it's kind of cheesy), and they're always stating how Orihime is odd and messy. But her room is like:
Which doesn't seem like a typical Japanese room in the first place and isn't messy in the 2nd place.
Her room doesn't seem that out of the ordinary for Japanese people, but it doesn't look messy.
I think for those longer shows, they don't put a ton of detail into the scenery because the episodes come out pretty regularly. For the shorter ones like Kyoani makes, for a show with multiple seasons, they come out pretty sporadicly so season 1 will come out in 2006, and season 2 will come out in 2009. Now some come out a bit sooner like a year and a half later, but that's quicker than when the next season of Bleach comes out.
