I came across some information that one of the other lecturers basically gave the exam paper to the students in the form of "tips". I reported it and luckily it didn't backfire on me. All is well in the world again.

If I didn't report it and the information leaked somewhere else and they found out that I did have the information but never reported - it could cost me my job. BUT, if my boss thought that I was just being a knitpicky I could be accused of name defamation or racism. They love to play the race card.
Hmm, that sounds like a tough situation to be in :/

Glad it worked out well for you, if i were in that situation i can't really say what i'd do, it really depends on circumstances and a lot of small details about all the people involved
This is probably a minor issue, but situations where the other person is illogical/nonsensical the whole time come up a lot. As an example...

Earlier, I spent an hour discussing "Why to learn theory" with someone. It wouldn't have been an issue if the guy kept basically going, "That's great, but you're losing the 'magic' of music". Then, when he finally was like, "Ok, teach me theory", I and a few others kept giving him links to site that have theory lessons, and he's like, "No, I don't want to read through a site; spell out for me in a post". Finally, I was like, "We don't have time to teach you! We have lives, man!". This response prompted him to say people were selfish and that I was being an elitist.

If people saying nonsensical things physically hurt, I'd be balling in pain right now...

/sigh

Anyway, yeah. Sometimes, you can't talk with some people.
Sam, teach me theory.

Totally get it man, i've talked to so many people like this (not only regarding music theory and not only on the internet). It can get really annoying and frustrating

That's why those people stay stupid and frankly you shouldn't worry about it.
Holy shit I feel like a failure/useless tonight.
Why?
I'm not a very useful or knowledgeable person. I just wish I was a jack of all trades like some people I know. If there's anything I envy, it's that.
Don't be.

Don't seek knowledge for the sake of being knowledgeable. Seek it for the knowledge itself. Seek it for the pleasure of knowing something, for finding something new. Don't see it as a means to an end. Think of it as a journey, as cliche as it sounds. Things aren't black and white. There aren't 'knowledgeable' people and 'not knowledgeable' people. Everyone's somewhere in between.

And whatever you do, do not compare yourself to others. I cannot stress this enough. Measure yourself by your own goals, by your own successes. Not theirs. It's pointless, because everyone is different. And let's face it, most people aren't going to care for more than maybe a few minutes that you know every element on the periodic table, or how to fix a car engine in a thunderstorm with nothing but some fuzzy felt and a rubber band, y'know?

So do it for yourself, and don't do it to be "a very useful or knowledgeable person" - it's a trite, meaningless statement. For one thing, there's no such thing as a jack of all trades, not really. Jack of some trades, maybe, if they're lucky. Do it because you want to actually know, not because you want to appear that you know. And as the old saying goes, "time isn't wasted, if you enjoyed wasting it", so don't get worked up about how you might not know something, so long as you were happy. And honestly, in the grand scheme of things, no one knows anything. Not one iota.

And sorry to get all preachy, and for the wall of text. It's just my two cents, it's up to you whether you agree. Hope it helps, anyway.
