Or a regular star.

You know, in space and everything.
Maps, would you be doing like research biology? Linguistics could be cool if you were good enough to work for the UN or something.
Biology might be wide, yes, but sometimes if your field is too wide you're not specialised enough for a specific field so just make sure not to fall into that trap. Trust me on this, I've seen countless biology majors that didn't specialise ending up working as a lab techie which kills your soul one day at a time.

Linguistics sounds pretty sweet...
Wellllll, I ended up applying for bio, after careful consideration.

And regret it. Not for any reason, simply because I regret any decision I make. I'd feel the same had i gone the other way.

Oh well, I really appreciate your help guys! Thanks. Smile
If I have a change of heart I can always apply next year (and possibly this year but i am not too sure...) and who knows, I might get five rejections... Looking on the bright side, eh?

I mainly went for it because it's a more varied learning experience (practicals, lectures, seminars and all that jazz) and also I can probably do syntax, semantics and phonology as a hobby more than protein synthesis, chemiosmosis and allele frequency.

Annnnnyway, it was nice to vent and thanks again. I feel I should end on a positive, so, er... I just had a cup of tea so there is that. How quaint.
Tea is nice.

Question: are you planning on getting a more specialized masters in bio? Because that may be the way to go. Maybe even a doctorate. Anything to avoid being a lab techy, I hear, lol.
If it makes you feel any better, I've changed my major like 4 times. I don't know if it's different over there, but nothing is set in stone. If you really feel like want to do something different with your life at some point than you can do that.
When I was looking at chavland universities I was told that you can change course during or immediately after your first year, maybe second year in some circumstances. Since it's a three year degree that'd be weird. Pretty sure the application deadline is January 15th for most programs so you can still apply.

personally I'd do linguistics cause I have no interest in biology and because I'm the type of person to get a useless degree anyway. But if you're actually into biology I'd go for that for the reasons you listed, and because you are more likely to do something truly beneficial (not that linguistic majors don't, I just see more options in biology).

It depends on what courses you take. If you knock out all your generals, but don't really touch any degree-specific courses...that would make sense.

That really depends on how your school sets up its programs though. Like at my school you can take whatever classes you want and change majors any time, but no matter what you pick there are 4 years worth of classes that you have to take in sequence for your major. So whenever you decide what you want to do you'll graduate 4 years from then, at the soonest.
