That is really dumb if they're just accurate translations. I could definitely see it if they were bad, like how you don't like badly done covers of songs you really like.
Well it's really in the "it's different so it's bad" argument, as when you read into things, that's the real argument here. Normally it's like what you said, they're angry for something being translated badly, like you see a lot in old NES and SNES RPG's. So people bitched about it, and they got what they wanted, though now the fans of the first English translation are pissed that the newer more accurate one is different from the original.

The same thing happens when you get fan translated stuff that either didn't translate things correctly, or they took some liberties with the dialog by making it more adult oriented, or added their own jokes, and then the official translation comes out with it being more accurate/true to the Japanese dialog, and they're mad that they didn't just copy and paste the fan translations, and the correct stuff is now "wrong".

I was gonna say this. It's the big deal about eating seafood, which is why I don't eat it too often.

Time in large doses can be fatal.
So this afternoon I was having a discussion on that goofy 35 year old weaboo manchild I brought up a few times here, and he said something about the possibility of the guy being autistic. So I'm a bit ambivalent in how I should feel about this guy if he does happen to be autistic and has a medical reason why he has off the wall logic for things, or bitches at really arbitrary things.

So I am a bit on the fence of this guy possibly being autistic, as some of the shit he says doesn't really make sense, but then he also does things that you see in people who are just dumbasses, like always having his opinions in the extreme and jumping from one end to the other, but then I recall how he says he doesn't work due to an undisclosed medical reasoning. I blindly assumed it was because he's fairly obese or how he's like a lot of trashy people I knew at school who had parents who were fully capable of working, but lied about some minor medical condition just to get welfare.

So yeah, idk how to feel about this, as I am irritated at how he acts and how he's kind of a jerk to the users, but at the same time if he's autistic, he kind of can't help acting the way he does. So as douchy as this sounds, I'm sort of hoping he's just a loser basement dweller rather than a disabled person so I won't feel bad for going off on him for being rude. Though I should also mention that I'm also kind of clueless on autism, and I know it doesn't mean they're retarded, but I'm still ignorant of what it really means for someone to be autistic.

What do?
Well, there's two issues: 1) Even if he is autistic, that doesn't take him off the hook, in terms of bad logic or flip-flopping his opinions. Many autistic people are very bright...sort of (but not really) that idiot savant idea. Their sense of logic may be off, but most autistic people are still fairly smart (even if they're not always good at logical argument). They don't tend to be dumbasses; they're just not good at saying what they mean. 2) I wouldn't assume one way or the other that's autistic. If he is, well...whatever. If he isn't, then you would kind of be an ass for assuming he was. Just treat him the same way you would treat anyone else. When he says dumb things, react the way you would towards others. When he says smart things, same thing.

Anyway...that's how I see it...Confusedhrug:
Well I've heard that the idiot savant stereotype for autistic people is fairly inaccurate. To your second point, it does seem douchy to assume that this guy is goofy so he must have a mental condition, though sadly I'm also claiming ignorance over autism, so he could just be a goofball and the things I mentioned aren't signs of autism.

So I guess I should just stick to being an ass to him for saying dumb shit like I do to everyone.

That's why I said "kind of (but not really)". I mainly meant how they tend to miss social cues, so they appear "dumb", even though they're usually smart.

lol, seems like a better choice, yeah.
One reason I'm confused on him, is how I'll criticize or bring up his weird logic and he'll debate it and defend why he does it (even though it still makes no sense at times) then a few days or a few weeks later, he's following what I brought up and now he sticks to that. It's not like he says "oh I realized what you said made more sense" or "I changed my mind" he just declares he does it now. Like let's say we're discussing recording and mastering, and I'm against using a compressor because it ruins the natural dynamics of a song, and you say how compressors are good, then a week later I say "I always use a compressor on my recordings".

So while everyone's been in a similar situation at least once where you realize your opponent was right all a long, but he does it pretty frequently.
He may just have a huge problem admitting he was wrong.

1) Autism is a really broad spectruum of conditions, though. Even if most autistics are fairly smart, it doesn't mean that this guy's annoyingness is affected by his autism

2) Yeah, if you don't have good reason to assume he is autistic, treat him as you would if he wasn't. Most likely he'd like other people to treat him normally if asked (although that is obviously not guaranteed), so you're doing just that. However, you should probably show some discretion now that you have some justified suspicion. If [the outragieousness of saying something to an autistic guy] x [likelihood of him being autistic] is too high, then maybe don't say it.

Rereading your post, it doesn't seem like you have a lot of cause for believeing he has autism, so it shouldn't affect you that much yet. Maybe just try to be a nice person in general, independently of whether people have mental conditions?

Which would make a lot of sense for some subtypes of autism, I suspect.
